VV’s continued…

VV”s continues to fail to surprise me. Since Friday, it seems things have been left uncommunicated, unsaid. That was the last time I was in. I took the day off yesterday.
It’s becoming clearer what a mess of an organization this is. How could V, the founder, leave the organization like this? It’s incredible the amount of responsibility she expects of you, and at the same time holds no accountability for herself. You know, I’m the type of worker that tries to be honest, maybe too honest. So I say what I do, and admit what I don’t, but working with a person such as her, she takes you for granted, and makes you stressed every opportunity she can. Or gets you to do something for her.
I feel its time to take a different approach. For one, care for my mental health and stress activity before anything else.

The Devil (and me) post#2

Okay. The last couple hours were tough on my mind. I couldn’t really stop thinking about telling Dad about his appointment. I had postponed it the whole day already, due to my perception of him being in a bad mood, and his comments earlier about my dishes.

So he came down at one point while I was making my next day sandwiches. And I just bursted it out. I guess I wanted to release it that bad. At least out of my own mind and transfer over the burden to him, in a way. So it came out. He didn’t have a bad tone surprisingly, he kinda just said “wha’?” so I repeated the appointment to him and showed him the date on the calendar. There, it was out. It was a relieving moment.

So maybe I overworried. Sometimes I know I shouldn’t be giving time to thoughts surrounding him. It’s hard to stop though. The simplest communications with him, I’m apparently traumatized from, and it sometimes keeps me thinking in circles.

The Devil post#1

So what happened. I was having lunch. Dad had an egg on the stovetop and he stepped away for a minute. I noticed it was burning, so I thought, figured the right thing to do was prevent the egg from burning. So I moved that pan off the stovetop. When he came back upstairs, I told him, I’d moved his egg. He immediately retaliated with “well why didn’t you turn off the stove then?” You know, with his slightly raised tone. I decided not to answer, hoping he would come to see where he was wrong.

This was what I was thinking. I just saved your egg from burning, possibly the pan too, and that’s all you say? Furthermore, how do I know what he wants to do? Maybe he needs to continue cooking the egg, flip it on the other side, or maybe there was something else after the egg, I don’t know? I thought he would return soon and switch the stove on/off accordingly to what he needed to do next.

It should be obvious now that communication with this individual does not come easy. I choose when and when not to speak, hope to de-escalate the situations as much as possible. Because when something happens, who gets blamed on? He’s the type of person to yell at you when he thinks its your fault, and say nothing when its determined its his fault.

Perspectives

I can look at it this way, or I can look at it that way
I can see it as an injury, or I can see it as a lesson to learn
I can see it as no girlfriend, or I can see it as an opportunity to find a companion
I can think of it as jobless, or I can think it as an awaiting opportunity
I can see it as being disabled, or I can see it as a posture I’m not comfortable with yet
I can see it as friends I’ve lost touch with, or the good memories we had together
I can think of the disagreements we had, or I can think of them of as lessons I need to learn
I can think of the disappointment she had in me, or I can think of the potential she saw in me
I can think of it as a wrong degree, or I can think of the sweat, blood, and tears I dedicated to earning it
I can think of it as failed work relationships, or I can think of them as lessons and experience to learn from
I can muck on about the past, or I can keep moving forward.

Board games and memories

Let me set the scene. Me and friends are getting together for board games over this COVID-19 season. Playing the online board game Aaron modeled after the original, Dixit. A couple turns in, after I make an obvious blunder, people are asking questions. Mostly in third person. “Why would he do that?” followed by laughter… “I can’t believe he made that move”, more laughter. Brings back old memories. Old wounds resurfacing. You see, this would be a common occurrence when we played board games back when we lived together in school. Which was one of the reasons I didn’t play with them so often. The only difference this time around was.. it was a few years later and my reaction.

You see it’s also about communication and believing in yourself. The old me would have doubted myself and I would have quickly changed my mindset to follow their reaction/lead. But like I said, this time it was years later and I wasn’t having it. I boldly made the same move and left the audience dumbfounded. In the end it was a misunderstanding on my part of the game rules, and we were able to clear it up. My point is though.. It shows the trust and faith this group has in me. Which is more the reason I have to believe in myself, and another reason to take them all with a grain of salt. And don’t forget to communicate 😉

Raptors Game Day – 02.08.2020

Today was a long-awaited day. Raptors game on a Saturday night. Seats in Section 110. I was taking my cousin Jeffrey.

It was a good game too. Raptors vs. Brooklyn. Crowd was loud, arena was lit, the Raptors won by 1 point, and it came down to the last seconds.

But..I felt very self-conscious. The TV screens showing fans didn’t help. I didn’t have my usual energy that I naturally have at Raptors games. I chose to go sober and without coffee today.

It wasn’t all bad. There were moments I re-connected with myself and had some good chats with Jeffrey. And earlier in the day I was pretty stressed, over small things like coordinating, messages in group chats, etc.

I just can’t help the fact that I find it harder to smile and not worry so much nowadays.

Basketball journals – 02.07.2020

I used to be uncomfortable playing PG. Now I’m getting more comfortable. This season my goals were to be more of a leader and communicate among the team. I’ve done a good job at this so far. We’re halfway through the season now. We’ve been losing most games heftily this season. Not new to me but still. I’m looking to improve my communication and court skills so we can be more cohesive as a unit.

Losing by such a large margin, its tough. But there are some key learnings. Last night for example, I learned, personally when I communicate while on the court, good, but while I’m on the bench, I’m better off resting and observing. The team will have to adjust on its own sooner or later. My energy is valuable, so don’t waste it.

The feel for the game really makes a difference. It was in my last sub of the game that I played with a flow. It wasn’t being on the court with fear and doubt. It was – I’m going to try to get my team back in the game.

Journal – 02.04.2020

I’m journalling about today’s class experience.

Entering class I was somewhat discontent that in my day I hadn’t done all I imagined at the beginning of the day. But little did I know the worst was yet to come.

Usually in class, I’m engaged, happy and learning. Today was much different. I felt nervous that I had a stupid look on. I have been thinking more about how unhappy I appear to be (in my expression). Maybe that carried on with me today. But whatever it was, I felt it hard to focus on what was taught in class. I was scared of looking stupid, saying something stupid, etc. There were times I had something to say. But I felt afraid to ask it for the reasons mentioned about. And engaging with my peers, I knew its something I should have done. But just didn’t have the courage to do it.

This is not the normal me. Just a week ago, I was very engaged with the professor, walked out of that class feeling refreshed. I did have a coffee that day.

My experience today was not unlike the experience I journalled about two days ago. A feeling of being disoriented.

Maybe one thing to do in this scenario is to connect back with the self. I wonder if that part was missing from me today or I was in doubt of myself.

Journal – 02.02.2020

Today has been a stressful day. A day which appeared to be light hearted, an early shift of volunteer work in the morning, come home, get a break before my friends come over for the Superbowl – from the sounds you’d think it was a light day.

The stress actually started before the day. I texted my friends whether they could make it, their dinner plans. You see when i host I like to have this stuff organized. One of them wasn’t clear on their RSVP, the others didnt comment on dinner. My roommate who I have to coordinate with – I’ve found I’m incapable of coordinating with him. He likes to have things his way, and I find him deeply inconsiderate as a person.

During my morning volunteer shift, I had a slight breakdown after lunch. I found myself over thinking every action I was taking. Overanalyzing it, etc. It got to a point where I needed to take a short break to sit down and just breathe. I know I sometimes need a break because of my social anxiety, but this time I was kinda just on my own, overthinking.

Coming home after my shift, I usually get a mental exercise by doing yoga and taking a sitz bath. However this was partly interrupted by my roommate in the kitchen. Ugh.

So we go onto Superbowl, my friend s are here. And here is my roommate, trying to take over the stage. Not only have I spent little time with him, due to little common interests, but even this moment spending time with him I was irritated by his commenting throughout the game. He is so distracting. Maybe I have am biased because of knowing him now as a person. I feel we took turns taking shots at each other tonight. I let my mental practice down tonight.

Uplifting weekend

I met up with a friend from the basketball team. We had dinner at my place and then went out for bubble tea afterwards. Nothing crazy but the reward in feelings I got from it was tremendous. He opened up telling me that his xmas break was dull with family, feeling lost lately in regards to direction of life, not being happy with his progress in certain things like basketball games.
I suggested lets go to grab a table and talk. it was then I decided, to push the basketball conversation further. We went pretty deep into the conversation, regarding each other’s goals for the season and holding each other accountable. So I feel like by the end I was able to engage him back to one of his focuses.

I took initiative next by giving Chie a call on Saturday. We didn’t chat until the next day, but it was still a good chat. We chatted on various topics; it had been 2 months since I saw her last. She is the type to be strongly rooted in everything she does. She shared what she’s been up to (feeling, thinking) with me, and I was able to give my take: different perspective, another way of the looking at the situation. Like letting her Mom know about her condition. Don’t wait to give news, especially if the news is affecting the dynamic of the relationship (or what it could be). That was my message.

Lastly, I attended my friend’s memorial for a family member. It was a close call, but I almost chose not to attend. When I got there, even though there were a few distractions I feel my intentions were strong that day. Being present during the memorial and paying a visit to the family members I knew. I had a moment with Hagi afterward and I felt the connection with him in that minute. First of sorrow and loss. But then also of encouragement in how to look at the situation from a learning and spiritual aspect. We were in agreement.

After these events, although I was going home, late for my schedule, I felt the weekend was over and I had lent a helping hand/words of encouragement. I could go home and rest.
Moreover, the events uplifted my spirits and it reinforced the purpose I recently discovered: encouraging and uplifting others.
